Despite a winter storm that closed much of the town Tuesday, a national expert on—and advocate for—high-speed, reliable internet spoke via Zoom to residents and members of the town’s municipal light plant board about why locally owned and operated internet networks are a good idea.
Falmouth’s municipal light plant board, created and appointed by town voters, is piggybacking off the work first started by FalmouthNet. The nonprofit wanted a locally owned, reliable, high-speed internet service after a 2020 survey found many residents were dissatisfied with their existing service and wanted better options. The municipal light plant board’s goal is to expand existing fiber-optic infrastructure to provide residents with more options.
